A stroller's folded size decides three things: whether it goes in the overhead bin or gets gate-checked, whether it fits your trunk next to the groceries, and whether it lives in the hallway or the closet. Brands advertise these numbers inconsistently, so we collected them in one place.
At a glance (from the chart below):
- Lightest: Mompush Nexis, 11.5 lb.
- Smallest fold: Cybex Libelle, about 1,857 cu in (12.6 x 7.8 x 18.9 in).
- Fits the 22 x 14 x 9 in US carry-on limit: Cybex Libelle only.
- Fits IATA's 22 x 18 x 10 in reference: Cybex Libelle, Stokke YOYO3, Bugaboo Butterfly 2, UPPAbaby Minu V3.
- Usable from birth and within IATA's reference: UPPAbaby Minu V3, Bugaboo Butterfly 2.
How we built this chart:
- Folded size and weight come from the manufacturer's own product page, spec sheet or FAQ, checked in September 2026, and every figure links to its source.
- We did not measure anything ourselves. Where a brand publishes no folded size, the chart says "not published" rather than guessing.
- Amazon listing dimensions are not used for folded size: they usually describe the unfolded stroller or the shipping box. A weight or child limit that comes only from the listing is labelled "(listing)".
- Dimensions are shown in the order each brand prints them; brands do not agree on which side is "length".
Which Carry-On Size Are We Checking Against?
Two reference sizes matter, and they are not the same:
- 22 x 14 x 9 in (56 x 35 x 23 cm). The individual limit Delta publishes for carry-on bags, and the size most US airlines use.
- 22 x 18 x 10 in (56 x 45 x 25 cm). The size IATA says many airlines apply as a maximum, including wheels and handles.
A stroller "fits" in our chart only when all three published dimensions fit inside the reference box in some orientation.
Key point: brands' own "overhead-friendly" or "IATA-compatible" claims are the brand's. Rules vary by airline, aircraft and cabin crew, so always check your airline before you fly.

Two notes on the sources. gb's US spec pages list the Pockit strollers' measurements as ranges that do not read as a folded size, so we left folded size blank. The Pockit Air page also gives its weight as 10.4 kg while the Amazon listing says 10.4 lb, so treat that figure with caution. Delta Children's Jeep Altitude page gives both 15.7 lb and 16.6 lb.
Which Stroller Folds the Smallest?
By published folded volume, the Cybex Libelle is the smallest here at about 1,857 cubic inches (12.6 x 7.8 x 18.9 in).
Key point: the Libelle is the only stroller in the chart whose published fold fits inside the 22 x 14 x 9 in box that US airlines use for carry-on bags.
The Stokke YOYO3 (2,518 cu in) and Mompush Nexis (2,721 cu in) come next. Both are slim but wider than 14 inches folded, so they only fit the larger IATA reference, and the Nexis misses even that by 0.11 in on its 18.11 in side.
The Bugaboo Butterfly 2 and UPPAbaby Minu V3 are bigger, at 3,683 and 3,870 cu in, but both fit IATA's 22 x 18 x 10 in reference and both are usable from birth, which the Libelle's seat unit is not (it starts at 6 months unless you click in an infant car seat).
Which Stroller Is the Lightest?
Going by brand-published weights, the Mompush Nexis is the lightest at 11.5 lb, thanks to a carbon fiber frame.
The Cybex Libelle and Stokke YOYO3 follow at 13.7 lb each, then the gb Pockit+ All-City at 6 kg (13.2 lb). Two Amazon listings claim lighter numbers, the gb Pockit Air at 10.4 lb and the Ingenuity 3D Mini at 11 lb, but we could not confirm those on the brands' own pages.
Among full-size strollers, the Baby Jogger City Mini GT3 is the lightest at 21.6 lb, and the Evenflo Pivot Xpand NXT is the heaviest at 30.7 lb. Among joggers, the Baby Trend Journey Jogger is lightest at 20.5 lb and the BOB Gear Wayfinder heaviest at 31.1 lb.
How Much Bigger Is a Full-Size Stroller Folded?
A full-size or jogging stroller folds to roughly 9,600 to 21,000 cubic inches in this chart, or five to eleven times the Libelle's fold.
The practical difference is the trunk. A travel stroller folds to about the size of a carry-on bag, while the UPPAbaby Vista V3 folds to 16.3 x 25.7 x 33.8 in with its seat on, closer to a large checked suitcase.
Pro tip: if trunk space is tight, look at depth and height as well as volume. The Thule Urban Glide 3 folds flat (12.2 in high) but long (34.6 in).
What "Overhead-Friendly" Actually Means
When a brand calls a stroller "overhead-friendly", "carry-on compatible" or "IATA-compatible", it is describing its own folded size against a reference, usually IATA's. It is not an airline promise.
Whether a stroller rides in the cabin depends on three things: your airline's carry-on limits, the aircraft's bins, and whether it counts as your carry-on bag.
The alternative is usually free. Delta says it does not charge fees for strollers or child-restraint seats and that they do not count toward your baggage allowance. You can gate-check a stroller that does not fit, though it then travels in the hold, and a protective bag is worth considering.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the lightest travel stroller?
Of the strollers in this chart, the Mompush Nexis has the lightest brand-published weight at 11.5 lb. The Cybex Libelle and Stokke YOYO3 follow at 13.7 lb. Amazon listings claim 10.4 lb for the gb Pockit Air and 11 lb for the Ingenuity 3D Mini, but we could not confirm those weights on the brands' own pages.
Which strollers fit in an airplane overhead bin?
By published folded size, only the Cybex Libelle (12.6 x 7.8 x 18.9 in) fits the 22 x 14 x 9 in carry-on limit most US airlines use. The Stokke YOYO3, Bugaboo Butterfly 2 and UPPAbaby Minu V3 fit IATA's larger 22 x 18 x 10 in reference. Bin sizes and crew rules vary, so check your airline before you fly.
Can I bring a stroller on a plane for free?
On many airlines, yes. Delta says it does not charge fees for strollers or child-restraint seats and that they do not count toward your baggage allowance. A stroller that does not fit the carry-on limit can usually be gate-checked. Policies differ by airline, so confirm yours before booking.
What is the smallest-folding stroller?
In this chart, the Cybex Libelle has the smallest published fold at about 1,857 cubic inches (12.6 x 7.8 x 18.9 in). The Stokke YOYO3 (about 2,518 cu in) and Mompush Nexis (about 2,721 cu in) are next. For ten strollers in our list we found no published folded size, so a smaller folder could exist among them.
Do travel strollers work from birth?
Some do. The UPPAbaby Minu V3, Bugaboo Butterfly 2 and Joie Nutmeg are listed from birth, though Bugaboo recommends a car seat for newborn comfort. The Cybex Libelle and Stokke YOYO3 (6+ version) seats start at 6 months unless used with a compatible infant car seat or newborn pack.
The Bottom Line
If the goal is a stroller that goes in the overhead bin on US flights, the Cybex Libelle is the only one here whose published fold fits the 22 x 14 x 9 in limit. For the lightest carry, the Mompush Nexis weighs 11.5 lb. For a travel stroller usable from birth that fits IATA's reference size, look at the UPPAbaby Minu V3 or Bugaboo Butterfly 2. Every figure above comes from the brand's own page, linked in the chart. We have not tested these strollers.
