Stroller Accessories Worth Buying (2026), and the Ones to Skip

Stroller accessories cost little next to the stroller itself, and some are worth it. A rain cover, a cup holder and an organizer make daily walks easier.

Others quietly work against the stroller: heavy bags on the handlebar, a blanket for shade, a fan with open blades. This guide covers both, using the stroller makers' own manuals and a children's hospital's heat advice.

Which Stroller Accessories Are Worth Buying?

Key point: the one thing every stroller manual we loaded agrees on is weight. Anything hung from the handle changes how the stroller balances.

Why You Shouldn't Hang Bags on the Handlebar

The UPPAbaby G-Luxe manual puts it plainly: "Placing any load on the handlebars will affect the stability of the vehicle." The same manual warns that the stroller "may become unstable if manufacturer's recommended load is exceeded, or if parcel bag or accessory other than that recommended by the manufacturer is used or hung from the unit."

The UPPAbaby Cruz V3 manual repeats the warning, and the G-Luxe manual caps its own cup holder at 1.5 lb, warning that "excessive weight may cause a hazardous, unstable condition to exist."

What that means in practice:

• Heavy things go in the basket. It sits low, between the wheels, where weight steadies the stroller instead of tipping it.
• The organizer holds light things only: a phone, keys, a drink.
• A hook holds one light bag. Never hang a full diaper bag or groceries, and never hang anything when your child climbs out. An empty seat is what lets a loaded handle pull the stroller over backward.

What Are the Best Stroller Organizers and Cup Holders?

If your stroller maker sells one, start there.

• UPPAbaby Carry-All ($49.99) fits Vista, Cruz, Minu, Ridge and G-Series strollers.
• Baby Jogger Parent Console ($54.99) fits most of the brand's line, including the City Mini GT3 and Summit X3. It has an insulated cup holder and a covered pouch.
• UPPAbaby Cup Holder ($39.99) clips to the frame, not the handle, and stays on when you fold. UPPAbaby says it is not for hot drinks, which matters with a baby a few inches below.
• Accmor Cup Holder ($9.98) is the universal pick if your stroller has no brand-made option. Its clamp fits bars from 0.55 to 1.7 in, and it holds a phone too.

Best for: one parent who walks daily with coffee and a phone. The cup holder alone covers most of that.

Rain Covers: Which to Buy, and When to Take Them Off

A rain cover made for your stroller fits best:

• Baby Jogger City Sights Weather Shield ($54.99) is Baby Jogger's own ventilated cover for the City Sights.
• UPPAbaby sells shields for its own frames, including the Ridge, Minu Duo and RumbleSeat.
• Hrzeem universal cover ($9.98) fits most single strollers, per its listing. It has air holes on both sides and a zip window.

UPPAbaby's own manual lists the rules for using any rain shield:

• "Rain shield must be removed when indoors and in hot weather to prevent overheating and possible risk of suffocation."
• "Children should not be left unattended in the product with rain shield fitted."
• "The stability of the product will be impaired in high winds with the rain shield fitted."

Don't Use a Blanket for Shade

On a sunny day it's tempting to drape a muslin or blanket over the stroller. Children's Health of Orange County (CHOC) advises against it. It says a blanket "blocks the breeze and traps heat, and it can push the temperature inside the stroller past 100 degrees in just 30 minutes."

CHOC's advice instead:

• Keep the canopy open.
• Point the stroller opening away from the sun.
• Clip on a portable fan to keep the air moving.
• Check on your baby every 10 to 15 minutes.

Bottom line: the stroller's own canopy is the shade. A cover that closes off the seat is for rain, not sun.

Are Clip-On Stroller Fans Safe?

A fan is only as safe as its guard. In 2025, Luv n' care recalled Nuby stroller fans because the housing let fingers touch the blade, a laceration hazard. About 33,600 were sold.

The Momcozy Portable Stroller Fan ($26.99) lists a fan gap of 4.5 mm or less. It weighs 0.26 lb and runs 3.5 to 9 hours per charge. Its listing also suggests clipping it to a crib. We would not: the CPSC's rule is "nothing but a fitted sheet" in a crib, as our safe sleep guide explains.

Footmuffs for Cold Weather

A footmuff zips around your child inside the stroller, like a sleeping bag with the harness coming through.

The Bugaboo All-Season Footmuff ($179.95) has a water-repellent shell, a fleece lining, a two-way zipper and a magnetic apron you can fold down as the day warms up. It's machine washable.
