Bath seats have their own federal standard, 16 CFR part 1215, which incorporates ASTM F1967. Its requirements cover stability, the restraint system, suction cups and leg openings. The current version, ASTM F1967-24, has applied since January 4, 2025.

Even so, seats that fail the standard keep reaching the market. From April 2025 to February 2026, CPSC announced recalls of at least six infant bath seats sold online, including Trankerloop, CheerKid, NFSVLB and YCXXKJ seats. The Trankerloop notice from February 26, 2026 gives the typical reason: the seats "are unstable and can tip over while in use, posing a risk of serious injury or death due to drowning."

## What Temperature Should Bath Water Be?

The first step happens at the water heater, not the tub. The AAP says to adjust it "so the hottest temperature at the faucet is no more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48.9 degrees Celsius)." CPSC gives the same number: "To prevent burns, the temperature on your water heater can be set to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or lower."

For the bath itself, the AAP says: "Test the water with your wrist or elbow to check that it feels warm, not hot." Neither the AAP nor CPSC gives an exact bath-water temperature on the pages we used, so we don't either.

Thermometers help as a second check:
